Hello Family & Friends,
We usually hunker down over the holiday weekends but with a Winter Storm on the way (yes, I said Winter Storm), we took a drive to find Bennett Peak or Mountain -- in honor of my dad and the Bennett name!
The weather has been HOT for Colorado and it was a beautiful day to get up into the higher elevations. We took the route we thought would be the best, and knew it would be a long day on the forest roads. We hoped the traffic would be light since everyone would already be in their camping spots!
The road was challenging and when we finally arrived at the top, we found a nice meadow that we could take a photo of Bennett Peak (elevation 13,000)
A close up on the left side revealed a craggy, jut out of rocks!
We hoped this was Bennett Peak because there wasn't any signage stating that fact : )
We decided that we would head forward vs. turning around and taking the trail we had fought coming up and the down wasn't much better!
This was the peak to just the right of Bennett Peak so I thought I should take a picture in case I had them mixed up!
You can see that it was a large meadow at the top of our trail before heading down -- mountains all around and I did a 360 rotation.
It was a beautiful day with sunshine and clouds.
The ride down was just a rocky as the one coming up but we finished out the FR 339 and it merged into FR 280 -- we came by Fuchs Reservoir on the way up and came down County Rd 250 (near Jasper) and went by Terrace Reservoir -- we following Spring creek down the mountain but it was difficult to see with the bushes and trees.
Traffic wasn't too bad and only had a couple yahoos driving like idiots (and we weren't one of them) --- we had a great day and memorialized a great dad!
Sending Blessings from the Road,
Susan & Darrel
